Eloisa James
Eloisa James is an American author of historical romance novels. She is the author of the Pleasures Trilogy, Duchess Quartet, Essex Sisters, Desperate Duchesses and Happily Ever After series. Eloisa (real name Mary Bly) is the daughter of two writers – her father is poet Robert Bly and her mother, Carol Bly, wrote short stories. Aside from being a bestselling novelist, Eloisa is also an associate professor at Fordham University, teaching English Literature. For a long time, Eloisa kept her pen name as a novelist and her academic careers separate, going as far as wearing contacts rather than glasses. She decided to reveal her identity when her readers thought her hidden identity implied she was ashamed of the genre she was writing in, which was not the case. As soon as she revealed her identity, she handed her novels out to fellow professors and wrote an editorial in defense of the romance novel.
