Gertrude Chandler Warner
Gertrude Chandler Warner (1890-1979) was an American author of children’s mystery novels. She is best known for creating the popular Boxcar Children series. Gertrude had wanted to become a writer from when she was a young girl. She would write stories for her grandfather and give them to him as Christmas gifts. As a child, Warner would see the inside of a caboose with a stove inside and dream about living inside a train. It would be this childhood dream that she would develop into what she would ultimately be known for – The Boxcar Children. Besides writing, Warner also worked as a teacher and volunteered for various non-profit organizations. She died in 1979 at the age of 89.
