Isabel Allende
Isabel Allende is a Chilean-American author and journalist. She is currently one of the most widely read Spanish-language authors in the world – if not the most. Isabel writes based on her own personal experiences, while adding in myth and realism woven together. She began her career working for the magazines Paula and Mampato . When Allende learned that her grandfather was gravely ill, she wrote him a letter for her own peace of mind; a letter that would evolve into her novel The House of the Spirits . Her style is considered magical realism, but also contains elements of other styles. Allende gained her American citizenship in 1993 and lives in California with her husband and fellow novelist, William C. Gordon.
