Michael Shaara
Michael Shaara (1928-1988) was an American author of science fiction and historical fiction. He is the father of novelists Jeff Shaara and Lila Shaara. Prior to becoming an author, Shaara was an amateur boxer and a police officer. He soon started selling his stories to magazines while at the same time teaching literature at Florida State University. Shaara’s novels The Killer Angels (as Gettysburg) and For the Love of the Game were adapted to film. Jeff Shaara created the Michael Shaara Award for Excellence in Civil War Fiction that gets awarded annually at Gettysburg College.
