Nigel Tranter
Nigel Tranter (1909-2000) was a Scottish historian and author. He was born in Glasgow and attended George Heriot’s School in Edinburgh. Nigel went onto become an accountant, working for his uncle’s company, the Scottish National Insurance Company. He served as part of the Royal Artillery during World War II, serving in East Anglia. As an author, Nigel is perhaps best known for his historical fiction and non-fiction, focusing on books on castles and Scottish history. He also wrote adventure, western and children’s novel as well as books on travel.
