She works as a folk art museum curator in the fictional town of San Celina, California (based on San Luis Obispo). Quilting is a major theme of the series. Other recurring characters in the series include Gabe Ortiz (police chief), her friend Elvia, Grandma Dove, Aunt Garnet and her cousin Emory.
