Inspector Montalbano is the protagonist in a series of mystery novels by Italian author Andrea Camilleri . Montalbano is a Sicilian detective who works for the fictional town of Vigata. Camilleri has referred to Montalbano as a “serial killer of characters,” in reference to how much attention the character requires from the author. The series was adapted into a television series starring Luca Zingaretti.
