Kate Shugak is a fictional character who is featured in a series of mystery novels by American author Dana Stabenow . As Stabenow is a native of Alaska, her series is set there. Kate largely interacts with the Aleuts (indigenous people to the area) and sometimes with the Eskimos of Alaska. Kate is an Aleut herself who lives on a national park with a wolfdog named Mutt.
