The Kent Family Chronicles is a historical fiction series by American author John Jakes . The series was written to commemorate the bicentennial anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The books follows the Kent family, beginning prior to the American Revolution. Phillipe Charboneau travels from France to England and then to the United States, changing his name to Philip Kent and meeting the various figures of the American Revolution like Benjamin Franklin, Samuel Adams, Paul Revere and others. The series lasted until 1890, but was originally intended to last until 1976. The first three books in the series were each adapted into TV movies in 1978 and 1979. The series is also known as The American Bicentennial Series.
