Tales of the City is a series of novels by American novelist Armistead Maupin . The setting of the series is at 28 Barbary Lane in San Francisco, California. Here you will find such characters as a pot-growing landlady, a hippie bisexual, a lothario, a cagey roof tenant and a sweet gay man nicknamed “Mouse.” The first few novels of the series have been made into a TV mini-series. There have also been musical adaptations. Publishers Weekly describes the series as “Maupin’s alternately playful and sentimental tales depict an all-too-easily satirized population of transients and toffs living in and around San Francisco.”
